The Story
Hidden in the small village of Kraj, 12km from Opatija, at the foot of the Nature Park Učka, is the The House. The house was originally built in 1838. In its long tradition, it has been restored several times; last overall between 2016 and 2019. It is a civic style house with high ceilings, large windows and direct views of Cres Cove and the Kvarner Bay.
The House is a restored antique house which represents a collision of traditional and modern. The original idea of the owner was the desire to remodel the house so that it maintains the original floor plan and 19th century features. Therefore, the elements stored in the house, are restored at different stages. The house is equipped with Biedermier furniture with elements of Neo-Baroque, which largely evokes the period from the 19th and the first half of the 20th century.
During the restoration of the building, only natural materials were used. Particular emphasis is placed on the Istrian stone Kanfanar, solid wood and old brick which offer warmth in the tavern, along with a fireplace and stone kitchen. The facility as such provides the maximum atmosphere in contact with natural materials which complements the Mediterranean plants with its aromas and essential oils..
The modern elements of the house are complementary to the traditional spirit which means that they allow the visitor a pleasant stay in a ventilated and sunlit area. The House is an air-conditioned property. It has satellite television, WiFi and private parking. The house has its own Wellness area with showers and a sauna. It also has a private winery with labels from the region’s top winemakers. There is also a library with books in many foreign languages and a gallery collection with paintings by some of the most famous Yugoslav artists. Home security is guaranteed by safes and surveillance cameras that are active 24/7.

The House Details
The House offers accommodation for a maximum of 6 + 2 persons and it has 3 bedrooms. Two bedrooms are located on the 2nd floor where there is a bathroom and a living room where the library is located. On the 1st floor there is a third bedroom and a living room. On the same floor there is another bathroom. All bathrooms, bedrooms and living rooms have windows. Wellness with additional showers is on the same floor. The whole 1st floor is connected with two large terraces (east and west) which in the summer are ideal living rooms full of sun or pleasant shade. Both terraces are high up, have sea views and are decorated with high oleanders for complete privacy.
The spacious tavern has a rustic kitchen with a dining area for 8 people. The kitchen is fully equipped with electrical appliances, fireplace and additional half bath. There is a pantry and wine shop on the same floor. There is a terrace in front of the tavern and a bicycle/scooter parking area. The House is a home which meets all the safety criteria for children and adults, from certified parasols and deck chairs to fences on windows and stairs that could potentially pose a risk to children.

Location
In the immediate vicinity of the house is St. Mary’s Church. The road to the beach is safe since there is no traffic. The house is 100m away from the sea and 200m away from the rocky beach. The nearest shops, post office, pharmacy, restaurants and ambulance are 2 km away (Moscenicka Draga). Rijeka Airport is at a distance of 55km or 1h by car.
